"Are Poor Recruiting Results Holding You Back?..."

Consider these two managers...

They both are bright and have a good education.  They're hard-working and have integrity.  They each have a district in a decent size city and have about 25 full time agents.  But that's where the similarities end...

The first manager begins his (or her) week with 3 or 4 first interviews scheduled.  He's excited because he's lined up some really good candidates to talk to.  He's going to be meeting with candidates who are pretty much like him - self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and goal-oriented.  He knows that he'll find at least two good agents this month (because he finds two every month).

The second manager begins his week hoping to be able to schedule about 10 or more interviews, although they're not all on the calendar yet.  He isn't really looking forward to the week, because he already knows that about 6 of the 10 candidates won't show.  He knows he'll have to interview a good 20 people to find even one person who'll be somewhat qualified as a new agent, even though he's paid good money to get "quality" candidates.  He thinks to himself, "It's harder than ever to find good candidates.  Oh, I can find plenty of bodies... just not many who are really a good fit.  I'm not really sure what else to do except stay focused and ride it out."

The first manager has cash flow challenges just like everyone else, but is generating enough profits to make ends meet.

The second manager also has cash flow challenges, but his financial picture is much different.  He's spending $1,000's each month on candidate leads and internet access.  He's dipped into savings and already has borrowed too much.  He sits at his desk saying to himself, "I wish I hadn't borrowed so much.  I hope I can hold on long enough to turn things around."

The first manager works long hours, puts on 6-8 quality agents by the end of the 3rd quarter.

The second manager struggles to reach his new agent goals by the end of the year.  He goes home each night thinking, "I'm working as hard as I can and I'm committed to succeeding, but what if I don't meet my new agent and production goals?  I don't know what else I would do."  The fact that so many other managers are in the same boat doesn't make him feel any better...

Too many of the managers I know live the life of the second manager.  But there are some managers who live the life of the first manager.  Which life do you want to live?
